Announcing Social Networking Support

AccessFYI now supports Social Networking tools.

If you find something particularly interesting on AccessFYI, you can post it to your Facebook account instantly.

The new feature also supports Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon, delicious, and over 200 other social media platforms. You can even email your colleagues about your find using this new feature.

Just look for this button bar and you can utilize the feature.

You may have to download the Addthis feature for your browser (IE and Firefox), and then it should work like a charm. It took me 2 minutes to get both my browsers working and posting to Facebook with this feature.

Give it a shot and let me know how it works for you.

Thinner, Lighter Kindle 2 Wows Frequent Readers

Are you overwhelmed with the amount of paper you carry around just to keep up? I was. If you currently slog around pounds of books, reports and magazines, the Kindle 2 will rock your world.

The svelte new Kindle 2 is lighter, thinner, and faster than its predecessor. This is great news for frequent readers.

The Kindle 2 is wireless. Download an entire book in under 60 seconds. There are over 230,000 titles ready for download. Access over 1,000 blogs.

Just slip the Kindle 2 into your bag and go. It only weighs 10 ounces - about the same as a single magazine or newspaper.

The Kindle 2 screen has the look of print type. The advantage is you can store hundreds of books and magazines and always have the material you need with you. You can even copy your own reports and other PDF files onto the Kindle. Beats carrying an armload of books, magazines, and reports everywhere.

Nintendo Announces Wii Checkup Channel

If you don't already own a Nintendo Wii, you've certainly either played it or know someone who is addicted to the innovative gaming platform.

Nintendo has developed titles under the Wii Fit name to help people exercise. Now, they are taking personal health one step further.

Nintendo is teaming up with Hitachi, Panasonic, NEC, and an unnamed health insurance company to offer a new health channel. The channel will offer specific health advice and guidance, including activities related to the user's weight.

The channel will work in conjunction with the Wii Balance Board, the Walk With Me pedometers and the NEC mobile phone health platform. Look for an April 2009 launch date.

Which now begs the question - Will there be opportunities for pharmaceutical companies to integrate into this channel?

accessFYI Internship Opportunity

accessFYI is a business-to-business web portal for professionals in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device sectors of the life sciences. What WebMD is for consumers, accessFYI is for professionals. accessFYI is a service offered by PharmaLinx LLC, publisher of PharmaVOICE magazine and its supplemental publications.

The portal will list free content, paid content, job listings, podcasts, web seminars, videos, whitepapers, requests for proposal, and much more.

As we prepare for launch, we are looking for several unpaid interns to participate in the management of the portal. Students preparing for a career in the Life Sciences are ideal, but candidates do not have to be students to apply. The work is performed at the intern’s residence or institution. No travel is required.

Purpose of InternshipThe purpose of the internship is to provide activities to help the interns gain experience in the life sciences industry. The internship experience should be one that strengthens areas where the intern is lacking in skills, knowledge and experience.

The intern will be in an immersive environment and earn hands-on experience working with a vast variety of topics in the life sciences. Intern will have exposure to a comprehensive array of issues, companies and people in the industry. The potential contacts alone are invaluable to a student seeking a career in this field. Responsibilities will be determined based on the skills, availability and interests of the intern.

Activities and Requirements

Activities may include:

  • Searching for appropriate content on the Internet
  • Uploading free content information the Content Management System
  • Uploading product information from commercial content partners

1. Major areas of need/interest before the internship experience

Why accessFYI?

Why are we building this web portal? I'll try to shed some light on the reasoning.

As a popular trade publication (PharmaVOICE), we constantly have insights into the thoughts and needs of the life sciences business professional. Our audience consist of the people who move the business model "from molecule to market." From R & D, drug discovery, and clinical trials, through commercialism, we're tapped into the collective consciousness of the industry. We tap thought leaders in companies on the sponsor side (pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device) as well as the legions of service providers in the industry.

Our constituents appreciate the value of our publications, and are asking for more. More access to information. More access to tools. More access to ideas. More access to their peers. More access to job opportunities.

It's our goal to provide a source of comprehensive information to help the life sciences professional be more successful. It's a no-brainer extension of our business, as we are ideally positioned to deliver on this mandate.

Our new web portal, accessFYI.com will aggregate content and provide connections and bring it all together via the web. The short list of items includes:
  • Blogs
  • Discussion forums
  • Email newsletters
  • Jobs
  • Magazine articles
  • News
  • Podcasts
  • Research reports
  • Teleseminars
  • Videocasts
  • Web seminars
  • Whitepapers
Some of these items will be brought to you under the PharmaVOICE brand, while a great many others will be aggregated from our content partners and thought leaders throughout the industry.

Any thoughts? We'd love to hear from you. Contact me at dlimbach@pharmavoice.com .
